April was born into the SCCA in 1981. She has been coming to events forever. Her first solo vehicle was a stroller; at 3 years old her next vehicle was a toy car; and then at age 8 she drove her grandfather's golf cart.
She became a full member in December 1992. She has held several positions in the NRSCCA as treasurer, 2004, points keeper about 5 times, banquet chairman (2003 and 2005) and has written articles for SportsCar on the National Solo Championships for about 7-8 years, in AS, GS, BSP, CSP, ESP and FM. April stated, "I was the first person to write about STS, and F125 when they were new classes. I felt proud that they let me do that."
"This year I am writing on the National RallyCross Challenge in Hastings Nebraska that was held in October. I also sang the National Anthem at the National RallyCross on Sunday morning."
She also has written articles for the Exhaust Notes since she was a teenager and started a column called "Member Spot Light" and co-wrote the T.H.E. Column for several years.
April works timing at regional autocrosses and has for about 12 years. She started in Road Rallys in the back seat of her parent's car, Ellen (Doctor) Zitzlsperger and Jerry Doctor, and at age 10, was a navigator for her father.
She has a race Crew license, a Regional Timing and Scoring license and a Regional Registrar's license, and not only works these specialties at MidAmerica MotorPlex, but has traveled to California Speedway and Button Willow in California and Mid-Ohio.
"I bought my first car when I was a junior in High School, a Red Cavalier, and I have just purchased a 2006 Yellow Mustang. I plan to autocross it in 2006."
In school she was in several musicals and plays and her love for now is Karaoke. "I just won a local contest and am progressing to the finals for a chance to win the bar for a night."
In the NRSCCA Top Ten year end awards list from 1954-2005, April is tied for 5th place.
"After graduating from UNL, I went to work for Co-Sentry. I ran a call center for HP, and was a project manager for new accounts."
In February of 2006 she met a guy named Tim Walter. They became good friends as they had a lot in common. She also introduced him to the NRSCCA. On August 8, 2006 Tim drove her car in his first Solo, at Lancaster Event Center, in Lincoln. He was hooked.
In December of that year Tim and April became engaged. In June 2007 the company Tim works for transferred to him to Minneapolis. April quit her job here and went to Minneapolis with him. On March 22, 2008 they were married here in Omaha. For their honeymoon they went to Rome and Venice for a week and had the time of their lives. But, when they got back to Minneapolis, April lost her job.
To make a long story short, Tim transferred back to Omaha, April has a new job with Gilsa Dairy and on May 31, 2008, they bought a house. They plan to stay in Nebraska and raise a third generation of NRSCCA members.
